Turns out I could! In fact, using the yellow wool made the whole process much easier because it made it really clear where I needed to increase and I hardly had to count anything.<\/p>\n<p>The hat in this pattern would be perfect for a newborn but unfortunately the baby I intended it for is nearly one. I&#8217;ll have to make her a bigger one. It would be easy to adapt this for an adult too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hat-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-241\" alt=\"spiral 2\" src=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hat-1-300x248.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hat-1-300x248.jpg 300w, http:\/\/stitchover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Hat-1.jpg 699w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pattern<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tutorials for magic circle, single crochet (<strong>SC<\/strong>), and increase can be found \u00c2\u00a0in the <a title=\"Crochet: Everything I have learnt so far\" href=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/?page_id=213\">crochet section<\/a> of this site.<\/p>\n<p>Hook: 5mm<br \/>\nWool: Millamia, Naturally Soft Merrino<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Top of hat<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Row 1: Create a 6 stitch <a title=\"Magic Circle\" href=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/?page_id=194\">magic circle<\/a> with yellow wool.<br \/>\nRow 2: <a title=\"Increasing\" href=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/?page_id=221\" target=\"_blank\">Increase<\/a> by making 1 blue <a title=\"The Single Crochet\" href=\"http:\/\/stitchover.com\/?page_id=216\" target=\"_blank\">SC <\/a>and 1 yellow SC in each stitch. (12 stitches)<\/p>\n<p><em>To create the spirals (and the top of the hat) you need to increase \u00c2\u00a0with blue in the stitch before a yellow stitch on each row. Hold the yellow behind your work using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.purlbee.com\/intarsia-knitting-tutorial\/\" target=\"_blank\">intarsia<\/a> method.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Row 3: SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (18 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 4:\u00c2\u00a0SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (24 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 5: SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (30 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 6:\u00c2\u00a0SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (36 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 7: SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (41 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 8:\u00c2\u00a0SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (47 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 9: SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (54 stitches).<br \/>\nRow 10:\u00c2\u00a0SC, increase before each yellow stitch. (60 stitches).<\/p>\n<p><em>If you want to make a bigger hat than the one pictured you will need to add more rows here, still increasing with blue before every yellow stitch. For a hat for a one year old, I am intending to add another 2 rows (72 stitches).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Side of hat<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Row 11 &#8211; 15: SC (keep blue stitches blue and yellow stitches yellow, hold yellow behind using intarsia)<\/p>\n<p>Row 16: SC, increase before each yellow stitch (66 stitches, more if you added rows in the top section)<\/p>\n<p>Row 17 &#8211; 22:\u00c2\u00a0SC (keep blue stitches blue and yellow stitches yellow, hold yellow behind using intarsia)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Edging<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Change to yellow wool for all stitches.<\/p>\n<p>Row 23 &#8211; 28 : SC in yellow. Increase 6 times in each row, space increases evenly.<\/p>\n<p>Pull wool through final loop.
